Emotional
Release Therapy

Hands-on, body-based work for emotion that stayed physical. For the woman who has done the inner work, and whose body is still bracing.

Marissa symbol

Your life looks strong outside.Your body is asking for relief.

If you are the woman who leads teams, manages everything, and still feels tension, reactivity, shutdown, or loneliness in your body, I want you to hear this clearly:

You are not broken.Your body has been protecting you.

Emotional Release Therapy is where we complete what your system never got to complete when you were trying to survive.

This is not performance healing.
This is body-level emotional completion,
guided with safety, depth, and precision.

Why this still happens,
even after years of inner work

Your mind can understand while your body still reacts.

Insight helps, but your nervous system can still move into anxiety, shutdown, or over-control. That is stored survival patterning, not personal failure.

Emotional memory is physical, not only psychological.

When grief, fear, rage, or hurt had no safe place to move, your body stored them in breath, posture, and protective tension.

Completion changes the present.

ERT helps your body complete emotional responses that were interrupted long ago, so your system can trust that the past is over.

This work is rooted in somatic practice and trauma-aware facilitation. Your body experiences present-day safety and a new emotional reality — not as a concept, but as something you can feel.

Session Structure

How I guide your ERT session

Every session is unique. Your body leads. I guide with structure, consent, and emotional precision. Nothing is forced — you choose the pace throughout.

  1. Somatic pressure

I work with specific points where emotional memory is often held. We track tenderness, contraction, numbness, and activation with precision and care.

  2. Guided breathwork

Breath softens internal defense patterns and opens access to what has been compressed for years, always at a pace your body can integrate.

  3. Voice and sound

Crying, sound, words, and intentional exhalation help your body complete release pathways that talking alone cannot always reach.

  4. Inner-child dialogue

I guide you to meet the younger part of you from present-day adult safety so she can finally feel seen, protected, and no longer alone.

  5. Integration and emotional reset

We close with regulation and grounding so what shifted can land in your real life, relationships, and decisions.

You are not re-living trauma. You are completing what was interrupted.

Where this training comes from

I did not invent this. I was taught it.

My Emotional Release Therapy practitioner formation was with Pat Jackman, and I studied Core Energetics with Stuart Black — the body-based lineage this work sits inside. Alongside it I trained in breathwork with Dan Brulé and hold certification under Chris Keener.

None of that makes me a clinician, and I will not pretend otherwise. It means the hands-on work has a tradition behind it and I am accountable to how I was taught to hold it.

Safety, Agency, Discretion

You stay in control.
I stay fully with you.

For women who have spent years holding everything together, safety is the foundation. This is high-touch private work, held with respect for your pace, privacy, and nervous system capacity.

You stay clothed, in control, and fully respected at all times.

You can pause, slow down, or stop at any moment.

I track your breath, body cues, and emotional pace in real time.

This is private, one-to-one, and held in full confidentiality.

Before you choose

“Emotional Release Therapy” means four different things.

The same phrase is used by practitioners doing genuinely unrelated work, which makes comparing options harder than it should be. Here is the honest map, and where I sit on it.

Body-based emotional release

What I practise

Hands-on somatic work with breath, pressure, and voice. The practitioner works with the body directly to complete emotional responses that were interrupted. This is the tradition I trained and practise in.

Muscle-testing and tapping methods

Approaches such as the Emotion Code and Emotion Release Technique use muscle testing to identify a held emotion, then acupressure or tapping points to discharge it. Non-invasive, and a very different mechanism from the work I do.

NLP and timeline-based methods

A trademarked family of techniques that work through hypnotherapy and guided timeline processes to release emotion attached to past events. Cognitive and conversational rather than physical.

Licensed clinical therapy

Many licensed therapists use the phrase descriptively for emotion-focused or somatic work inside psychotherapy. If you need diagnosis, treatment, or insurance-billable care, this is the category you want, and I will say so.

Compared with talk therapy

Talk therapy works largely through understanding. That matters, and for many people it is enough. This work starts from the opposite end: it assumes you already understand, and that the pattern is still living in your body anyway. The two are not rivals. Plenty of my clients see a therapist and come to me for the part that words have not reached.

Compared with EMDR

EMDR is a clinical protocol delivered by licensed professionals, with strong evidence behind it for post-traumatic stress. It reprocesses memory through bilateral stimulation. My work is not clinical and makes no such claim. It is slower, hands-on, and led by what your body does rather than by a protocol.

Compared with a breathwork class

A group class gives you a shared container and a fixed sequence. This is one-to-one, unscripted, and paced entirely by your nervous system on the day. If you want the room and the collective energy, my Healing Air sessions are the better fit.

This work is for you if...

Especially if you have achieved a lot, yet still feel emotionally burdened in relationships, family dynamics, or intimacy.

You are high-functioning and highly responsible, yet your body still feels braced or tired.

You have done inner work and still notice relationship triggers repeating.

Family, childhood, or partnership pain still influences your present decisions.

You want trauma-aware, discreet, emotionally precise support.

You are ready for emotional freedom, not another coping strategy.

Talk to me first, or wait, if any of these apply.

This work uses conscious-connected breathing, which changes how your body handles oxygen and carbon dioxide. For most people that is safe and self-regulating. For some it is not, and I would rather say so plainly here than find out on the day.

  • You are pregnant, or think you may be
  • You live with a cardiovascular condition, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or have had a recent cardiac event
  • You have epilepsy or any seizure disorder
  • You have glaucoma, retinal detachment, or another condition affecting eye pressure
  • You have had surgery in the last three months, or have a recent injury still healing
  • You have a history of psychosis, bipolar disorder, or another condition where expanded states carry risk
  • You are currently in acute crisis, or your safety feels uncertain right now

None of these is automatically a no. Several are a “tell me more and we will decide together”. Mention it in your enquiry and I will give you a straight answer, including when the honest answer is that this is not the right work for you right now.

Questions people actually ask

Before you write to me.

What is Emotional Release Therapy?

It is body-based work for emotion that stayed physical. Rather than talking about a pattern, we work with where your body holds it, using precise somatic pressure, guided breath, and vocal release so an emotional response that was interrupted can finally complete. Sessions are private, one-to-one, and you stay clothed and in control throughout.

How is it different from Healing Air Breathwork and Metanoia?

Emotional Release Therapy is hands-on and works with specific held patterns in the body. Healing Air is a breath-led session for emotional buildup and nervous system reset, with no somatic pressure work. Metanoia is a multi-day private immersion that may include both, plus integration time. If you are not sure which fits, tell me what is happening and I will point you to the right one, including if that is none of them.

What does it cost?

I do not publish rates. The work is priced per person depending on what you need and how many sessions make sense, and I would rather talk about your situation before quoting a number. Ask in your enquiry and I will give you the figure straight away in my reply.

Is this therapy? Can it replace seeing a therapist?

No. This is educational and wellness-oriented work, not psychotherapy, psychiatry, or medical treatment. I am not a licensed clinician and I do not diagnose or treat conditions. It works well alongside therapy, and there are situations where I will tell you that licensed care is what you actually need.

Do I have to talk about what happened?

No. You can share as much or as little of the story as you want. The work operates through the body, so it does not depend on you narrating anything you would rather not say out loud.

What happens in the session itself?

We start with arriving and settling, so your system knows it is safe. From there we work through somatic pressure at points where emotion is often held, guided breath, and vocal or sound release, following what your body offers. We close with grounding and integration so what shifted can land before you go back into your day.

Is it safe? Are there reasons I should wait?

Yes, there are. Conscious-connected breathwork is not appropriate during pregnancy, or with cardiovascular conditions, epilepsy or seizure disorders, glaucoma or retinal conditions, recent surgery, or a history of psychosis or bipolar disorder. If you are in acute crisis, this is not the right starting point. Tell me what is going on in your enquiry and I will be honest with you about whether to proceed, wait, or start somewhere else.

Where do sessions take place?

I work in seasons rather than from a permanent studio. Sessions run in person during my time in Franklin, Tennessee and the greater Nashville area, and in Tulum, Mexico. Tell me where you are based and I will let you know the next dates near you.
